Having Time for Self, Family and Friends

Singapore is a small island with an incredibly efficient infrastructure. By choosing to leave home early for work, I took only 15~20 minutes to reach office which is about 20 km away. A two way trip is less than 60 minutes. During my stay in Kuala Lumpur, it took me three hours for these two trips. This happened only if I leave office late to avoid the horrendous traffic jam. This is a saving of two hours per day which is ten hours a week! This is an awfully lots of hours to spend for personal leisure, family and friends.

Another good time saver is bill payment by a system called GIRO, where invoice is automatically deducted from my accounts and payment by internet. Both are easy and accurate. Imagine lining up in a queue to pay your bill either at the post office; government office or a bank. Each time I have to spend an hour just to do this chore. Good bye to these non value added chores; thanks to the electronic payment system!

Each of us have only 24 hours a day, and time saved means more for self, family and friends. This is living a good life.

Samsung Omnia i900 - ActiveSync and Productivity

Upgraded the firmware as I noted that the camera is taking very bad pictures. The auto mode on white balance does not produce the color tones. In fact, as I stated in my feedback to Samsung; that the pictures produced such whitish colors as if the people are 'dead'! This is unfortunate, as the output is worst than my previous Nokia N73. After the firmware changed (PHONE/PDA: i900DXHJ1/DZHJ1), the pictures from the camera is a lot closer to the original color tones. This is the good news. The bad news is obviously that I have to reinstall all the files and external programs. The ActiveSync initially would not work, and I went to Samsung at Vivocity (Singapore) to talk to the folks there. Finally got it working again, where I can synchronize with my Outlook, where all the phone database is. I cannot sync with the server, as the corporate server is highly secured. The synchronization of the phone and Outlook (my work "portal") is the key to ensuring I have the critical d...

The Attitude of Happiness

Happiness is a mental exercise. It is twist and turn of events that influence this state of mind. Now I am happy, and tomorrow I can be unhappy. Why is this so? Why can't I be happy always? Unlikely that this will happen, because it takes pain to understand joy and fear to understand bravery. There is night and day and like the harmonic motion, there will be ups and downs. The challenge is whether I can smile when I am down, and laugh when I am up. In the mental exercise, can I twist and smile; turn and smile as well? Am I able to accept the "unpleasant events" and let that emotional turmoil goes away to let time heal the wound? Like a stream flowing down, am I able to flow along with it, instead of resisting the current?
