Friendship Takes on Artistic Meaning

What could bring lawyer and scientist together? Appreciation of art and art as an investment. We have been colleagues for over a decade in Singapore. He decided to follow his passion into art, and I decided to learn "art" from my "scientific" thinking.

I asked myself a few questions before investing in art: 1. Do I like the piece? 2. Am I willing to pay for what I like? 3. Is there any possible investment value over the longer term (>5 years)? Above all, getting a third party opinion from my lawyer always help.


Here is a happy moment of home cooked dinner at my friend's house where family members can eat and laugh together. It is a simple but often neglected habit. Yes, it is a simple habit to deepen the bond of friendship.

Samsung Omnia i900 - ActiveSync and Productivity

Upgraded the firmware as I noted that the camera is taking very bad pictures. The auto mode on white balance does not produce the color tones. In fact, as I stated in my feedback to Samsung; that the pictures produced such whitish colors as if the people are 'dead'! This is unfortunate, as the output is worst than my previous Nokia N73. After the firmware changed (PHONE/PDA: i900DXHJ1/DZHJ1), the pictures from the camera is a lot closer to the original color tones. This is the good news. The bad news is obviously that I have to reinstall all the files and external programs. The ActiveSync initially would not work, and I went to Samsung at Vivocity (Singapore) to talk to the folks there. Finally got it working again, where I can synchronize with my Outlook, where all the phone database is. I cannot sync with the server, as the corporate server is highly secured. Is Gen Y in trouble?

Gen Y are people born somewhere in the mid 70s, and should be around thirtyish by now. Most of them in the developed countries are used to the good life style. Is this generation in trouble? Here's an article from Business Week. Think about our kids, who are part of this Gen Y. http://www.businessweek.com/investor/content/jul2010/pi20100715_116291.htm The Straits Times in Singapore carried a couple of articles as well on Gen Y. They are more attuned to pop, iPhone, gaming, luxury goods, pub, wine which the baby boomers avoid to plan for the future. What will the future hold for them and for us? Do we have to support the Gen Y as well from our retirement fund?
